On the way to Alaska, 2015
Life eventually brings sailors together! We met in 2009 in Gibraltar, at a time when we both had different plans. Banu had sailed from Turkey and was getting ready to sail across the Atlantic toward the Caribbean and USA East Coast. Peter was skippering a boat from Malta to Australia.
The owner of the boat Peter was skippering met Banu in Porto Colomb in the Baleares. He came back to the boat and told Peter that he should meet this woman who loved sailing. Peter cleaned himself up and went to meet her but was blown off in 30 seconds!
We met again on the dock in Gibraltar’s Ocean Village Marina and started chatting. Noticing Peter’s accent Banu asked if he was from Australia and said that her dream was to sail under the Sydney Harbor Bridge. “We can do that” said Peter, and the rest is history….
Together we completed three Atlantic Ocean crossings, crossed the Mediterranean twice, did extensive cruising in the Northern to Southern Aegean, Bahamas, USA East Coast, the Intracoastal Waterways, the Erie Canal, the Great Lakes, the Pacific North West, Alaska, and the USA West Coast.
The sea is magical. We hope to spend as much time on it as possible…
